What is Melatonin?
The most common natural remedy for insomnia is Melatonin. Many studies show that Melatonin reduces time to fall asleep and increases duration of sleep.
The question most people ask is: “How much Melatonin should I take to fall asleep”? Of course, the answer varies based on weight and gender of the user. Generally, most doctors and herbal advisors tell patients to start with a relatively low dosage of 1.5 mg Melatonin. Many studies indicate that a 3 mg dosage reduces effects of insomnia and night time anxiety that prevents patients from sleeping well.
Similar to prescription and non-prescription sleep aids should not be taken while operating machinery, during working hours, or while consuming other drugs and alcohol.
Before starting a Melatonin regimen, please consult your physician to fully understand the benefits and potential side effects.
